Mom and Dad Chu Visit Taiwan 2006

Friday, October 6, 2006 - Day 1 - ARR 11:45 AE0822 HKK to KHH
Mom and dad arrive safely in Kaohsiung still jet lagged from their trans-Pacific flight to Hong Kong a day before. However, they are able to keep up with our young legs. We take them around the city. Specifically, to the harbour area of our city. We take them to the Sun Yet San University area. The heat is daunting for the Chu's since it was 80% humidity and 32°C which is a stretch from Canada. We took them to the British Consulate building and then to Chi Jin Island.

A five minute ferry dropped us off at the street stalls of Chi Jin Island. Mostly fish and sea creatures ready for devouring though. Kathy and mom see frogs at one stall.
Dad's response;"Do you want to eat here?" Although we didn't stop for some yummy toads, we did stop at a nostalgic stall selling stinky tofu; nostalgic for dad and mom anyway. For us it haunts us of gag reflex trauma.

Hey chow dofu! How much? Only $20 ($0.75CAD)?
Let's get one! Mike, you can eat some cause I can't eat all of this!

Despite the chowing down of a plate of stinky tofu, we were still hungry come supper time. We took mom and dad out for dinner at a restaurant called "Formosa." The the interior is designed in streetscapes of different Chinese historical eras. All the table legs were old singer sewing machines which was very cool. They sold old clockwork toys and memorabilia. Old Chinese posters adorn the walls. They created an amazing atmosphere to be in even if you weren't going to eat there.
